william sattler
my work calls attention to the actions, beliefs and choices of our culture—often using irony as a method of expression. it is an observation and a wake up call to perhaps question reality instead of going along blindly to traditional dogma. paint, screen prints, collage, stencil and mixed media are layered into montages to create edgy contemporary art, some of which is graffiti-style with a punk rock attitude. perceptions of american culture, family, politics, conflict and religion are explored using symbolic hyperbole. as an example, the use the use of religious and iconic imagery is not meant to offend or incite - but to question the wide spread misuse of a few people in authority to use as instruments of intolerance, violence and hate. i believe that these works and iconic figures are symbols of love, tolerance and peace that our modern society has somehow lost sight of. m
